Introduction

Welcome to the CMS Fdt v. 4.0 (and counting).

Why did I decide to roll out my own CMS? I mean, there are a lot of them around. Well, yes. But none of them was what I was looking for.

Long time ago, I began my site writing down raw html directly my beloved editor (vim). But after a while it became clear that I needed something a little more structured to avoid repeating over and over the same thing. I needed a CMS.

I started looking around, but couldn't find anything I liked. Most of the CMS that were free were designed mostly for a standard 'blog', all of them were made in PHP and none had what I wanted.

So what is it that I wanted?

I want to be able to have one template or layout for each page (eventually), in order to be able to display each page as I like.

I want to be able to manage the documents in groups (that are the equivalent to directories), so I can refer to a document like /something/document or /something/somethingelse/document.

I don't mind an editor, but I want to be able to write the documents on my PC, using my favourite editor and then upload them on the system.

I want the ability to easily incorporate blocks of html into either the template or the document, and then display the whole thing as one.

In the end, I sat down and wrote my own CMS. This is the 4th version, the first one didn't really existed and the second one was only for internal use.

Basic carachteristics:

  1. Fully multi-host
You can create a new host on the fly, without any changes in the configuration of Apache.

  2. Support multiple languages
Each document can be in many languages, the system try to pick the right one depending on the user's browser configuration.

  3. Mutlilinks
Each document can be associated with 'n' links (URL).

  4. Fully multiuser
Each user can have different permissions and authority to do different stuff.

  5. Wholly configurable
I've tried to put all the possible parameters into a database, so to allow each and any aspect of the system to be configured without the need for accessing the server directly.
